Embryolocgial Studies of Certain Triploid Apples

Abstract
|
|
|
The results of embryological studies with the. use of triploid parents were demonstrated.
Abnormal development of the female gametophyte, both retarded development of embryo sac and early breakdown of the egg was observed in the triploid apple varieties. Single fertilization, failure of fertiliaztion were observed when triploids were used as either pollen or seed parents.
The frequencies of these abnormalities in megagametophyte development and further observations on the abnormal development of embryos were discussed.
